Second Lieutenant Cyril Henry COMPTON,  3rd Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, attached 19th Battalion, Manchester Regiment, killed in action,  23rd July 1916, age 19.

Son of George William and Rosina Compton, of Silwood Road, Rondebosch, Cape Town, South Africa. 

Served in German South West Africa with 2nd Transvaal Scottish Regiment. Came overseas to enlist.

23rd September 1913, Union Castle Mail Steam ship Company Ltd,  Kildonan Castle, arrived Southampton, from Durban, South Africa - Cyril H Compton, student, age 16, country of last permanent residence, England, also Sidney E Compton, student, age 19, country of last permanent residence, England.

8th October 1915, Union Castle Mail Steam ship Company Ltd, Llandovery Castle, arrived Plymouth from from Durban, South Africa - Cyril H Compton, student, age 18, country of last permanent residence, England.

Commemorated at  Thiepval  Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, Somme, France.

In pursuance of “The Regimental Debts Acts 1893” notice is hereby given that there is available for distribution amongst the Next of Kin or others entitled the sum of money set opposite to the name of each of the deceased Officers, and Soldiers and Airmen named in the lists which are published with this notice in the London Gazette and the “Army List” and are also to be seen at the Regimental Depots throughout the United Kingdom.

Applications from persons supposing themselves entitled as Next of Kin should be addressed by letter to Secretary, War Office, Imperial Institute, South Kensington, London, SW7 and marked outside “Effects”
