Temporary 2nd Lieutenant Henry George Brown Slade, Royal West Kent Regiment. , 

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading counter attacks on three separate occasions, when in spite of heavy rifle and machine gun fire, he succeeded in driving the enemy back and inflicting heavy casualties on them. His coolness at critical times was most marked, and his skilful leadership proved of great assistance to his C.O.
