His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to confer the Military Cross on the under mentioned Officers and Warrant Officers in recognition of their gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field : 2nd Lieutenant Philip Scott Martin, Royal West Kent Regiment. With reference to the awards conferred as announced in the London Gazette, dated 26th September, 1917, the following are the statements of service for which the decorations were conferred. AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS 2nd Lieutenant Philip Scott-Martin, Royal West Kent Regiment. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After the troops on his flank had been forced to retire, he held an isolated post with fifteen men throughout the day with the utmost determination, driving back several attempts of the enemy to regain the trench. It was largely due to his tenacity in holding this position that the evening attack was successful, and he displayed courage and resource of the highest order. London Gazette 1st February 1918.
