Second Lieutenant William James ELLIOTT, 6th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, 30th June 1918, age 31. Son of Josiah and Minnie Elliott, of 3, Catherine Place, Sutton-at-Hone, Dartford, Kent; husband of Edith Elliott, of 2, Alfred Cottages, Mill Rd., Hawley, Dartford, Kent. Commemorated at Pozieres Memorial, Panel 58 and 59., Somme, France. AWARDS: MC

The under mentioned cadets to be temporary 2nd Lieutenants (attached). 1 August 1917: Royal West Kent Regiment - William James Elliott London Gazette 13th May 1918 His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the following Awards to the under mentioned Officers and Warrant Officers in recognition of their gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field: AWARDED THE MILITARY CROSS Temporary 2nd Lieutenant William James Elliott, Royal West Kent Regiment. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in a raid on the enemy's lines. He took charge of a raiding party, the officer in command being wounded before the raid began, and led it with great determination and skill to the objective. he showed utter contempt of danger throughout the operation, and set a most valuable example to his men. He finally conducted the withdrawal in perfect order.
