Corporal William Charles BUNCE, G/18794,  7th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France,  18th November 1916, age 29.

Born Clapham, Surrey, son of James Henry and Mary E. Bunce, of West Hendon, London.

5th August 1907, Parish Church, West Hendon,  married  Elizabeth May Stopher, spinster.

Children - Dorothy May Bunce, born 17th September 1908, Hendon; William Robert James Bunce, born 28th August 1909, Hendon; Henry Conrad Bunce, born 22nd July 1911, Hendon.

Home, 24th March 1910 to 17th July 1915; Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 18th July 1915 to 6th April 1916. Served 6 years & 14 days 9th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, Service No.729.  15th February 1915, promoted temporary Corporal; 10th July 1915, confirmed in rank of Corporal; 18th July 1915, Devonport, embarked HMT Huntsgreen for MEF; 13th December 1915, Sulva; 19th December 1915, Alexandria, disembarked ex HT Haverford; 22nd March 1916, Alexandria, embarked on HT Tunisian for England, time expired;  6th April 1916, discharged.


Enlisted Mill Hill, Middlesex, age 28 years, 11 months, height 5ft 3¼ inches, weight 126lbs, fresh complexion, eyes grey, hair dark brown.  Resided 63 Ramsey Road, West Hendon, Middlesex. Formerly boot repairer.

Home 24th July 1916 to 1st October 1916; BEF 2nd October 1916 to 18th November 1916.

24th July 1916, called up & enlisted as Corporal, 3/9 Middlesex Regiment, Service No.5144; 2nd October 1916, Folkestone, embarked; 2nd October 1916, Boulogne, disembarked; 2nd October 1916, posted to 1/7 Battalion, Middlesex Regiment; 14th October 1916, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment & posted 7th Battalion; 18th November 1916, posted missing.


22nd July 1917, date to which Separation Allowance of 28/- a week and Allotment of Pay of 3/6 a week will cease.

23rd July 1917, pension of 27/6 a week awarded to widow & three children.

22nd October 1919, War Office Memo - articles of personal property & any medals granted to Charles W Morris, 63 Ramsey Road, West Hendon, London NW9.

Buried at  Stump Road Cemetery, B.2., Grandcourt, Somme, France.
