Born Rochester, Kent, son of William Bonfield, 29 Peppercroft Street, Gravesend, Kent. Brothers - Frederick Bonfield, 29 Peppercroft Street, Gravesend, Kent; William Bonfield, 84 Nelson Road, Gravesend, Kent.


1911 Census - Quebee, West Kent Regiment, Bordon, Hampshire - Edward William Bonfield, Private, age 20, single, 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, born Chatham, Kent.


Enlisted  Gravesend, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 4 inches, 116lbs, fair complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, scar inside of left knee. Formerly greengrocers assistant.

Home 15th October 1908 to 13th August 1914; BEF 14th August 1914 to 24th August 1914.

15th October 1908, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th October 1908, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th October 1911, awarded 3rd Class Certificate of Education; 11th August 1914, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal.

28th November 1916, next of kin - Sisters - Mrs Emily  E Foster & Mrs Jenny Anderson.

Commemorated at La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.
