Lance Corporal Francis James SWINDELL, G/3256, 7th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, 13th July 1916, age 19.

Born Shortlands, Bromley, Kent, son of *Francis & Matilda 53, Napier Road, Gillingham, Kent.

*1901 December,  Bromley Registration District, died age 42.

1909 September, Bromley Registration District, Matilda Swindell, married William Laundon.


1911 Census - 85 Barnsole Road, Gillingham, Kent - William Laundon, head, age 41, married, electrician, Electric Railway Signal Engineers, born Lambeth, Surrey; Matilda Laundon, wife, age 41, married 1 years, 1 child still alive, born Stockton, Wiltshire; Francis Swindell, son, age 13, scholar, born Shortlands, Kent; John Swindell, son, age 11, scholar, born Shortlands, Kent; William Laundon, son, age 7 months, born Gillingham, Kent.


Enlisted  Chatham, Kent.

24th August 1915, posted BEF.

Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, France.

London Gazette 19th February 1917.

His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Military Medal for bravery in the Field to the under mentioned Non-commissioned Officers and. Men, since deceased, who have been killed in action or died of wounds or disease subsequent to the date of the award of the Military Medal to them by the Commander-in-Chief in the Field.
