Lance Corporal Hermann George TAYLOR, G/2944, 7th Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment,  killed in action, Flanders France, 18th November 1916, age 24.

Born Milton, Kent, son of Herman Frederick and Annie Taylor, of 11, Malcolm Road, Penge, London / 35 Ridsdale Road, Anerley, Penge, Kent.

29th May 1892, Kent, baptism of Hermann George Taylor, son of Herman Frederick and Sarah Annie Taylor.


1911 Census - 134 Parish Lane, Penge, Kent - Frederick Taylor, head, age 45, married, baker, worker, born Milton; Annie Taylor, wife, age 45, married 20 years, 5 children, all still alive, born Bromley; George Taylor, son, age 19, single, porter, worker, born Milton; Eva Taylor, daughter, age 17, single, ironer, worker, born Milton; Dora Taylor, daughter, age 15, single, ironer, worker, born Milton; Ella Taylor, daughter, age 13, school, born Faversham; Harold Taylor, son, age 6, school, born Lewisham.


Enlisted Bromley, Kent, age 22 years & 5 months, height 5ft 4 inches, weight 130lbs.  Resided Penge, Kent. Formerly engineers warehouseman.

Home 11th September 1914 to 10th August 1915; BEF 11th August 1915 to 18th November 1916.

11th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th October 1914, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 26th November 1914, Chatham, Falling in late for Parade, 2 days confined to Barracks; 27th November 1914, Chatham, Falling in late for Parade, when speciallty warned to do so, 7 days confined to Barracks; 11th August 1915. posted BEF & 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 20th April 1916, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 16th July 1916, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 18th November 1916, posted missing.

Buried at Stump Road Cemetery, B. 92., Grandcourt, Somme, France.

NOTE: Regimental History & Soldiers Died in the Great War both show rank as Lance Corporal; CWGC web site shows rank as Corporal.
