Born Sowerby, Yorkshire, son of Mary Ann Wirley.

2nd April 1905, Heptonstall, Yorkshire, Mary Ann Law, married William Wirley.

Enlisted Halifax, Yorkshire, age 21 years & 18 days. eight 5ft 6¼ inches, weight 130lbs.  Resided 26 Green Syke, King Street, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire / 6 Pall Mall, Mytholmroyd, Yorkshire. Formerly dyer.

Home 21st February 1916 to 28th August 1916; BEF 29th August 1916 to 1st October 1916.

21st February 1916, enlisted & posted 29th Royal Fusiliers, Service No.PS/10563; 29th August 1916, posted BEF & 11th Royal Fusiliers; 10th September 1916, Etaples, 39 Infantry Base Depot, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment & posted 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th November 1916?, appointed unpaid lance Corporal.
