Private Alfred BRUNGER, G/3211, 7th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, Flanders France, 18th July  1916, age 21. 

Born Edinburgh, Scotland, son of Alfred and Laura Agnes Brunger, of 39, Dernier Road, Tonbridge, Kent.


1911 Census - 5 Church Row, Tonrbidge, Kent - Alfred Brunger, head, age 53, married, blacksmith, born Rolvenden, Kent; Laura Agnes Brunger, wife, age 44, married 25 years, 8 children, 6 still alive, born Est India Cuddalore; Cecil Alfrid Brunger, son, age 16, single, house boy, born Edinburgh, Scotland; Harold Victor Brunger, son, age 14, school, born County Cork, Ireland; Winnifred Maud Brunger, daughter, age 9, school, born Layer-de-le-Haye, Essex; Elsie Mabel Brunger, daughter, age 5, born Tonbridge, Kent.


Enlisted Tonbridge, Kent.  Resided Tunbridge Wells, Kent. 

Buried at  St Sever Cemetery, A27.20., Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France.


Commemorated on Tonbridge War Memorial - Tonbridge War Memorial - The original World War I memorial at the Junction of Pembury Road and Quarry Hill. The names were later re-inscribed in the new Memorial Garden in Bradford Street. 

From Tonbridge History - Cecil Alfred Brunger was born in Edinburgh in 1896, the son of Alfred and Laura Brunger. By the time of the 1911 census the family lived in Church Row, Tonbridge. Cecil Alfred enlisted at Tonbridge and served as Private G/3211, 7th Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment. He went to France on the 24th August 1915. He died of wounds on 18th July 1916 and is buried at St Sever Cemetery, Rouen.
