29th September 1914, enlisted, posted 5th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 25th April 1915, posted 2/4th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 14th July 1915, posted 2/5th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th October 1915 to 15th November 1915, awarded 28 days detention; 12th August 1916, attached 1/20th London Regiment; 13th September 1916, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 31st January 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 6th April 1917, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 26th September 1917, posted Infantry Base Depot; 30th September 1917, posted 3/4th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th October 1917, deprived of 7 days pay for not complying with an order given by an NCO; 27th January 1918, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 10th June 1918, posted Eastern Command Depot, Shoreham; 8th October 1918, posted 3rd Battalion.

12th February 1919, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued
