1st April 1914, enlisted & posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 8th August 1914, mobilized; 7th December 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th April 1915, tried by Court Martial, when a soldier acting as a sentinel sleeping on his post, convicted, sentence in abeyance; 20th April 1915, sentenced to suffer death by being shot, punishment remitted by General Officer Commanding; 13th July 1915, wounded; 30th September 1916, deprived of 7 days pay; 23rd April 1917, wounded; 24th September 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 2nd October 1917, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th November 1917, 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, posted missing; 12th January 1918, confirmed as Prisoner of War; 29th November 1918, repatriated at Dover & sent to Prisoner of War Reception Camp, Canterbury; 29th November 1918, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 8th February 1919, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment.
15th March 1919, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued
Pension, 5/6 a week for 52 weeks conditional.
Disability, 20%, gun shot wound left wrist.
