Private Arthur James GREER, 242094, (5597), 7th Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, 8th August 1918, Flanders France, age 20.

Born Portsmouth, Hampshire, son of Charles James & Frances Gertrude Greer, (now Salmon), of 27, Frederick St., Portsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire.

Enlisted Portsmouth, Hampshire, age 18 years & 9 days, height 5ft 3½ inches, weight 113lbs, corns on toes of left foot. Resided 27, Frederick St., Portsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire. Formerly canteen assistant.

Home  24th May 1916 to 30th May 1917; BEF 31st May 1917 to 8th August 1918.

24th May 1916, enlisted; 24th May 1916 to Army Reserve; 5th February 1917, mobilized & posted 5th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th May 1917, posted 3/4th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 31st May 1917, Southampton, embarked; 1st June 1917, Havre, disembarked; 10th February 1918, posted 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 17th February 1918, joined Battalion, In the Field; 11th March 1918 to 24th March 1918, granted  leave to UK; 8th August 1918, posted missing.

13th November 1918, report to GHQ 3rd Echelon - 242094 Pte. Greer A J missing, believed killed 8th/10th August 1917. Identity disc picked up on the Battlefield, near Mallard Wood in the vicinity of Sailly Laurette. About 19th August 1918, a party burying German dead had instructions to bring back any British identity discs found, and the disc forwarded was found in this neighbourhood. The man to whom the disc belonged was probably buried in the vicinity as during the very hot weather prior to the 19th August 1918 all units were burying any bodies in close proximity to their camp.

7th April 1919, date when Separation Allowance of 9/3 a week payable to mother will cease.
