Previously served in Royal West Kent Regiment, Militia.
Enlisted Maidstone, Kent, age 19 years & 1 month, height 5ft 6¾, weight 115lbs, pale complexion, grey eyes, brown hair. Resided 124 Hudson Road, Plumstead, Kent. Formerly labourer.
Home 9th December 1907 to 30th November 1908; India 1st December 1908 to 26th July 1915.
9th December 1907, enlisted; 11th February 1908, 3rd Class Certificate of Education; 18th March 1908, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th May 1908, 2nd Class Certificate of Education; 15th October 1908, passed fit for Service in India; 1st December 1908 posted India & 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th July 1910 to 22nd October 1910 & from 29th November 1910 to 18th August 1914, qualified typist & radio telegraphist.

NOTE: Regimental History & Soldiers Died in the Great War both spell last name SWAIN; CWGC web site shows it as SWAINE.
