Private Bertie READ, G/2058, 7th  Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, death assumed on or after, 18th November 1916, age 22.

Born Willesden, NW, enlisted 7th September 1914, Woolwich, Kent, age 20, height 5ft 6 inches, weight 121lbs. Formerly carman.

Only son of the late George Read and of Sarah Elizabeth Read, of 61, Fortune Gate Road, Harlesden, London.

Home, 7th September 1914 to 25th July 1915; BEF, 26th July 1915 to 18th November 1916.

1st January 1915, forfeits 11 days pay for absence, awarded 14 days Field Punishment No.2.

Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, France.

NOTE: Regimental History shows one initial, B; Soldiers Died in the Great War show one firstname BERTIE; CWGC web site  shows firstnames as Birtie Alfred Stanley.
