Born 1899, Cobridge, Staffordshire, enlisted 12th June 1916, Derby, age 18, height 5ft 1 inch, weight 98 lbs, resided 3 Arthur Street, Cobridge, Stoke on Trent. Formerly waggoner in coal mine.

Son of George & Emma Dutton.

Sherwood Foresters, 117 days, Royal West Kent, 305 days, Army Reserve 167 days. Approved Insurance Society, Ancient Order of Druids.

Home, 12th June 1916 to 25th June 1917; BEF, 26th June 1917 to 4th October 1917; Home 5th October 1917 to 21st January 1919.

12th June 1916, enlisted, Sherwood Foresters, General Reserve, 82781; 27th March 1917, mobilized; 30th March 1917, posted Depot, Sherwood Foresters; 26th June 1917, posted BEF & 10th Sherwood Foresters; 21st July 1917, transferred to 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th August 1917, Infantry Base Depot, Etaples; 31st August 1917, classified P.B. (Permanent Base, implying  unfit for active service and only employable in the base area in France); 6th October 1917, transferred to Home Establishment unfit for service in France, posted Depot; 22nd May 1918,  transferred to Army Reserve, Class "W".

21st January 1919, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued

 Disability 20%, middle ear disease, aggravated by shelling in France, but originated before enlistment, man states he has had a discharge from left ear for as long as he can remember. He went to France but was sent home PB, states he was unfit for service. He is quite deaf in his left ear.

30th April 1919, rejected for a Pension.
