29th October 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 18th November 1914, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th February 1915, Worthing, absent from 9.30pm till apprehended at Bexhill on Sea on 26th, deprived 8 days pay, forfeits 8 days pay; 27th August 1915, overstaying his pass from 11.00pm till 5.30pm on 28th, 3 days confined to Barracks, forfeits 1 days pay; 26th September 1915, posted wounded & missing.

20th January 1916, War Office Memo to Infantry Records - "A sum of money is due to No.4244 Private E Brown, 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, British Expeditionary Force, from the Estate of the late No.10137 Private Thomas Brown, 2nd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Will you please place this form in the documents of the first named soldier, and in the event of his death, return it to this office, either with Army Form B104-93 or with a separate covering memorandum if the casualty occurs under conditions not necessitating the rendering of the Army Form."

23rd August 1916, pension of 14/6 a week awarded to the children.

3rd January 1917, War Office - Officially regarded as died on or since 26th September 1915.

4th January 1921, War Office Memo -"I am directed to inform you that as Ezekiel Brown is of illegitimate birth, he has no legal claim to the medals of the late No.4244, Private E Brown, Royal West Kent Regiment. I am to state however, that as the eldest legitimate son has apparently waived his claim in his favour, the medals may be issued to him accordingly"

SOLDIERS' BALANCES UNDISPOSED OF.

In pursuance of "The Regimental Debts Act, 1893," notice is hereby given that there is available for distribution amongst the Next of Kin or others entitled the sum of money set opposite to the name of each of the deceased Soldiers named in the lists which are published with this notice in the London Gazette and the "Army List," and are also to be seen at the Regimental Depots throughout the United Kingdom.

Applications from persons supposing themselves entitled as Next of Kin should be addressed by letter to "The Secretary, War Office, Imperial Institute, South Kensington, London, S. W. 7," and marked outside "Effects."
