15th January 1896, St John, Deptford., Lewisham, baptism of Ernest Cheesman, son of Charles Philip, (railway porter),  & Selina Jane Cheesman, 87 Ravensbourne Street.

Enlisted  Tunbridge Wells, Kent, age 19, height 6ft ½ inch, fresh complexion, blue eyes, dark hair. Formerly cycle maker.

4th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th September 1914, posted 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 1st July 1916, wounded; 4th July 1916, General Hospital, Havre, gun shot wound right hand, to England Hospital Ship "Egypt"; 4th July 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 6th July 1916 to 26th September 1916, Bath War Hospital with shrapnel wound hand; 5th October 1916, posted Eastern Command Depot, Shoreham on Sea, Sussex, had a course of special massage; 10th December 1916, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th January 1917, posted BEF & 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th January 1917, embarked / disembarked; 15th January 1917, joined battalion, "B" Company.
