23rd November 1915, enlisted; 24th November 1915, to Army Reserve; 16th June 1916, mobilized; 20th June 1916, posted 14th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, Service No.6274; 1st September 1916, transferred to 97 Training Reserve; 10th September 1916, Aldershot, overstaying his pass from 11.55pm to 9.15pm 11th September 1916, deprived of 3 days pay, forfeits 2 days pay; 14th October 1916, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment, & embarked; 20th October 1916, joined Battalion, In the Field.

6th May 1918, pension awarded of 37/11 a week to widow & five children.

10th May 1918, Mrs Emily Jackson, widow living at 6 St Johns Road, East Bergholt, Suffolk.

30th April 1920, War Office Memo - With reference to the disposal of any medals, which may have been, or may eventually be awarded in respect of the services of tge soldier described in the margin, now deceased, I am directed to inform you that any such medals should be despatched by Registered Post to The Guardian, Mrs Susannah Jackson, near High Trees, East Bergholt, Suffolk in trust for the deceased soldiers daughter, Elsie May Jackson. I am to add that when the medals are despatched it should be made clear that they are the property of and should be handed to the child on attaining an age to appreciate their value.

28th July 1920, letter to Mrs S Jackson, near High Trees, East Bergholt, Suffolk from Infantry Records - "In the course of exhumation and reburial of the body of the late soldier above named, the *personal property marginally noted was recovered and forwarded to this office for disposal. It will be understood that such articles, after being buried for some considerable time, are much decayed, but are certified to be quite harmless and not injurious to health. The possession of many small articles recovered from exhumes bodies, would no doubt be appreciated by the next of kin, but it is thought that in cases where decayed papers are only recovered much unnecessary pain may be caused to the receiver. It is therefore requested that you will please be good enough to state definitely whether under the circumstances it is desired that these effects should be forwarded to you or destroyed." *letters, three religious books, decayed

17th August 1920 letter from Mrs S Jackson, to Infantry Records - "I would be greatly obliged to you if you would kindly forward the articles found on my deceased son (Pte E Jackson to the above address and oblige."

Buried at  Hooge Crater Cemetery, VI. J. 14., Belgium.
