Private Frederick BOOKER, S/4623, 1st  Battalion,  Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders France, 15th November 1914.

Born Deptford SE, son of William & Emma Booker, 76 Ormside Street, Old Kent Road, London.

23rd September 1912, Christ Church, Camberwell, married Beatrice Theresa Phillips, 49 Meeting House Lane, Peckham. She later remarried and became Mrs Naylor, 15 Dartnell Road, Addiscombe, Croydon, Surrey.

Children - Frederick William Booker, born 16th January 1915.


1st December 1902, New Cross, enlisted into Royal West Kent Regiment, Militia, age 17, height 5ft 3½ inches, weight 103lbs, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, cross and indistinct tattoo on left forearm, drilled on enlistment; Present for Annual Training, 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908. 17th July 1908, applied to join 3rd Battalion, Special Reserve, Royal West Kent Regiment.

7th January 1903, Maidstone, talking and laughing in the ranks when at recruits drill, 5 days confined to Barracks; 6th June 1903, Shorncliffe, disobeying a regimental order, 10 days confined to Barracks;


Enlisted , Maidstone, Kent, age 23, height 5ft 3½ inches, hazel eyes, brown hair, cross and indistinct tattoo on left forearm, weight 103lbs. Formerly saw mills labourer.

Home 9th August 1908 to 18th September 1914; BEF 19th September 1914 to 15th November 1914.

9th August 1908, enlisted 3rd Battalion, Special Reserve, Royal West Kent Regiment, Special Course of Training; 12th July 1909 to 31st July 1909, present at Annual Training; 1910, present at Annual Training; 5th September 1910, Maidstone, failing to report himself for Annual Training until 3.30pm, 10 days confined to Barracks, forfeits 1 days pay; 1911, present at Annual Training; 1912, present at Annual Training; 5th June 1912, re-engaged for an initial period of 4 years; 28th July 1913, appointed Lance Corporal; 27th July 1914, Maidstone, absent from assembly for Annual Training until 7.15pm, admonished, forfeits 1 days pay; 31st July 1914, Shorncliffe, breaking out of Camp after Tattoo when Battalion Orderly Corporal & remaining absent until apprehended by the Regimental Police about 11.45pm; 5th August 1914, mobilized; 6th September 1914, Lodge Hill, absent Tattoo unti, Tattoo 13th inst.; 14th September 1914, deprived of Lance stripe, deprived of 8 days pay; 19th September 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment;

26th July 1920, Statement of Relatives - Widow, Mrs Beatrice Naylor, 15 Dartnell Road, Addiscombe, Croydon, Surrey; Child - Frederick William Booker, born 16th January 1915, 15 Dartnell Road, Addiscombe, Croydon, Surrey.

Commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Panel 45 and 47, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
