Born Woodham, Mortimer, Essex, son of George & Eliza Hannah Yell, Guns Hill Farm, West Ham / c/o Mr P W Coote, Whitehouse Farm, Runsell, Danbury, Chelmsford, Essex.

Enlisted 11th December 1915, Maldon, Essex, age 20, height 5ft 7½ inches, weight 9st 4.  Resided Guns Hill Farm, West Ham / Victoria Inn, Woodham Walter, near Maldon, Essex. Formerly horseman.

Home, 11th December 1915 to 14th September 1916?; 13th September 1916 to 3rd  May 1917.

Separation Allowance 2/5 a week, Allotment of Pay 1/2 a week payable to mother.

11th December 1915, Called up; 12th December 1915, to Army Reserve; 7th June 1916, mobilized; 9th June 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 26th July 1916, Fort Darland, whilst on active service, urinating in a tent, 5 days Field Punishment No.2.; 13th September 1916, embarked; 13th September 1916, Infantry Base Depot; 29th September 1916, joined 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, In the Field; 7th October 1916, wounded in action; 8th October 1916, 97 Field Ambulance, gun shot wound right arm; 15th October 1916, Etaples, 4 Convalescent  Depot; 17th October 1916, 5 Convalescent  Depot; 8th December 1916, from 5 Convalescent  Depot, to join Battalion.

Commemorated at Arras Memorial, Bay 7, Pas de Calais, France.
