9th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th September 1914, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th January 1915, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 4th April 1915 Redhill, absent from Tattoo until Tattoo 6th April 1915, deprived of 12 days pay, forfeits 3 days pay; 1st May 1915, Shoreham, making an improper & obscene remark to an NCO, 7 days confined to Barracks; 13th June 1915, Shoreham, overstaying his pass from 12 midnight until Reveille 15th June 1915, deprived of 3 days pay, 10 days confined to Barracks, forfeits 2 days pay; 30th August 1915, posted BEF & embarked; 19th December 1915, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 4th April 1916, deprived of Lance stripe for neglect of duty whilst NCO on watch of his Platoon in the trenches; 18th April 1916, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal.
