Born Chatham, Kent, enlisted 13th February 1916, Chatham, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 4 inches, 116lbs. Formerly bottle washer.

Son of Charles Henry and Julia. Read, of 9, Middle St., Cage Lane, Chatham, Kent.

Home, 13th February 1916 to 20th December 1916; BEF, 21st December 1916 to 23rd August 1918.

9th January 1917, whilst on active service, not taking tea to the Guard Room when ordered, deprived of 10 days pay.

Buried at Becourt Military Cemetery, II. C. 5., Becordel-Becourt., France.
