10th June 1913, enlisted 20th County of London Regiment, (Territorial Force), Service No.1369,  age 17 years & 7 months; 7th October 1913, discharged to join Regular Army.

Enlisted New Cross, Kent, age 18 years 1 month, height 5ft 9 inches, weight 125lbs, teeth require attention.  Resided 9, Ingleheim Cottage, West Ferry Road, Millwall, London, E. Formerly ironworks labourer.

8th October 1913, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 10th October 1913, Maidstone, urinating his bedding, admonished pay for damage; 26th / 27th October 1913, Maidstone, urinating his bedding, admonished; 9th December 1913, Maidstone, tonsils; 29th January 1914, Maidstone, urinating his bedding,  8 days confined to Barracks, pay for damage; 10th February 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 6th March 1914 to 11th March 1914, King George V Hospital, Dublin, dyspepsia; 23rd May 1914, Dublin, having an untidy cot, 3 days confined to Barracks; 15th August 1914, posted BEF; 29th August 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 8th November 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 27th April 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th May 1915, posted BEF & 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 13th May 1915, 5 Infantry Base Depot; 15th May 1915, joined Battalion "A" Company, In the Field; 15th February 1916, Whilst on Active Service, overstaying his leave from 13th until 6.30pm 14th, deprived of 8 days pay, forfeits 2 days pay; 9th April 1916, Arrested when a soldier acting as sentinel on Active Service, sleeping on his post, 19th April 1916, General Court Martial, to suffer death by being shot, 29th April 1916, sentence commuted to five years, sentence suspended with effect from 27th April 1916, sentence remitted 27th July 1916; 10th September 1916, Frost bite, to England;

5th September 1914, Fort Darland, absent from 9.30pm until 12.45am, deprived of 8 days pay, forfeits 2 days pay; 26th October 1915, Whilst on Active Service, losing by neglect his tube helmet, 7 days confined to Barracks;

Commemorated at Arras  Memorial, Bay 7, Pas de Calais, France.
