Private John Alfred BALDWIN, L/10807, 8th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of wounds, Flanders, France, 20th August 1916, age 20.

Born Sevenoaks, Kent, enlisted 8th May 1915*, Maidstone, Kent, age 18, height 5 ft 6 inches, weight 104 lbs, resided Seal, Kent. Formerly gardener.

Son of Benjamin and Sophia Baldwin, of 1 School Lane, Seal, Sevenoaks, Kent. Later 6 Church Terrace, Seal, Sevenoaks, Kent. Four brothers & three sisters.

* noted on enlistment "not up to standard but likely to develop". Accepted 30th May 1915.

Wounded 16th August 1916, Gun shot wound to the head, with cerebral haemorrhage.

Commemorated at Abbeville Communal Cemetery, V.H.4., Somme, France.
