Born, 21st January 1893, Maidstone, Kent, son of the late Walter Cook, (shoemaker and ex Sergeant of the Volunteer Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment), and Mary Cook, (daughter of W F Couchman), of 22, Grecian St., Maidstone, Kent.
Served in the South African War 1899-1902 (Queens Medal with three Clasps& Kings Medal with Clasps), also Ireland & Egypt.
1911 Census - 20, Grecian St., Maidstone, Kent - John Cook, head, age 36, single, bootmaker, leather & grinding seller, own account, born Maidstone, Kent; Mary Cook, mother, age 65, widow, born Maidstone, Kent.
Re-enlisted 11th February 1915, Maidstone, Kent. Formerly shoemaker.
11th October 1915, posyed BEF.
Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, Somme, France.
