1st June 1915, enlisted & posted 11th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd December 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 23rd January 1916, deserted, struck off strength; 6th March 1916, rejoined from desertion, taken on strength; 16th March 1916, tried by Court Martial for absence on active service, sentenced to 42 days detention.
25th August 1916, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued
