Private John MAINWARING, 203034, 3rd / 4th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, (formerly 4919, Monmouthshire Regiment), died of wounds, No.19, Casualty Clearing Station, Flanders France, 14th August 1917, age 22.
Born 25th February 1895, Cwmavon, Port Talbot, Glamorganshire, Wales, son of John Mainwaring and Esther Mainwaring, of 13 London Row, Cwmavon, Port Talbot, Glamorganshire, Wales.
Educated Cwmavon Elementary School, Port Talbot, Glamorganshire, Wales.

Resided Cwmavon, Glamorganshire, Wales. Formerly employed by the Copper Miners' Tin Plate Company, Cwmavon, Port Talbot, Glamorganshire, Wales.
7th September 1916, enlisted into Monmouthshire Regiment; 15th December 1916, transferred to Royal West Kent Regiment; 7th August 1917, wounded near Arras by a shell, while on duty fetching rations out of the trenches.
His Commanding Officer wrote: "He was hit, I believe, by a fragment of a shell, which penetrated his back and entered the abdomen. It will be among heroes like himself that he will be buried. He was a good soldier, and I shall miss him in my Company. He was always so cheery and willing that it was a pleasure to come to him in the trenches during stiff times. He was a fine example, and you may be well proud of him."
Buried at Duisans British Cemetery, VI. B. 58., Etrun, France.
