Joined 97th Foot Regiment, (342465), 20th November 1889, labourer, transferred to Army Reserve, 31st March 1895.
Served on the Punjab Frontier (1897-98) and in the South African Campaign.

7th October 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th October 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 22nd April 1915, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment & BEF; 23rd April 1915, landed at Infantry Base Depot; 25th April 1915, joined Battalion, "C" Company.
25th July 1917, memo from B Goldsmith, Captain, RAMC, 23 Casualty Clearing Station, (extensively damaged) - Admitted to ..... at 9.15am in .... had had .... for about a fortnight .... and 1 hour previous to..... had vomited up about ...... blood. ... in a dying condition on ... in a short time he vomited twice more and on each occasion bringing up nearly a pint of blood and he died at 9.50am. A post mortem examination was made and the stomach was found to be the seat of the haemorrhage, no definitive ???? of a ????? was found and the cause of the haemorrhage appeared to be a general oozing from the ???? in the mucous membrane. The cause of death was haematemesis probably brought on by gastritis.
1st October 1917, pension of 33/9 a week for widow and children.
Buried at Lapugnoy Military Cemetery, II. D. 12.Pas de Calais, France.
