Private William BOXALL,  G/20708, 10th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders, France, 25th October 1918, age 20. 

Born, Wisborough Green, Sussex, son of William and Kate Boxall, of The Hollies, Loxwood, Billingshurst, Sussex.


1911 Census - Frenchmouth Farm, Wisborough Green, Billingshurst, Sussex - William Boxall, head, age 35, married, farm foreman, born Rudgwick, Sussex; Kate Boxall, wife, age 39, married 13 years, 2 children, both still alive, born Cromer, Norfolk; William Boxall, son, age 13, school, born Wisborough Green, Sussex; Eric Boxall, son, age 9, school, born Wisborough Green, Sussex.


Enlisted Horsham, Sussex, age 18, height 5ft 5¼ inches, weight 140lbs. Resided, The Hollies, Loxwood, Billinghurst, Sussex. Formerly engineer.

7th June 1916, enlisted; 9th March 1917, joined 31st Training Reserve battalion; 3rd September 1917, passed battalion Lewis Gun course; 10thOctober 1917, transferred to 4th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment, 36375; 1st March 1918, qualified as 1stlass Signaller , Brigade Signalling School; 29th March 1918, posted BEF; 30th March 1918, Folkestone, embarked; 30th March 1918, Boulogne, disembarked; 30th March 19118, posted 11th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment; 2nd April 1918, transferred to 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th April 1918, joined Battalion in the Field.

9th October 1919, Statement of Relatives - Father, William Boxall, Alford Bars, Loxwood; Mother, Kate Boxall, Alford Bars, Loxwood; Brother - ? age 18, Alford Bars, Loxwood.

Buried at  Outrijve Churchyard, Close to the East end of the Church. Avelgem, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
