Quartermaster Serjeant William Martin NERNEY, 6303, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, (attached ASC Records), died, New End Military Hospital, Hampstead, NW. 10.45 pm. 27th June 1919, age 53.

Born Marylebone, London, son of William Martin Nerney and Charlotte Betts-Nerney.

1886 June, Marylebone Registration District, married Mary Ann Sophia Riding.

Children - Sophia Ellen Victoria Nerney, born 1887, Marylebone Registration District; William Martin Nerney, born 1888, Marylebone Registration District.

Served 5 months with 2nd Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment. purchased release.

Enlisted Woolwich, Kent, age 43? (48?), height 5ft 5½ inches, weight 162lbs. Resided 27-28 Old Jewry, London EC. Formerly clerk (accountant). On enlistment shows Married (widower).

18th April 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 18th April 1915, attached ASC Records, Woolwich; 18th April 1915, appointed Acting Corporal; 7th November 1916, appointed Acting Sergeant; 11th May 1918, appointed Acting Company Quartermaster Sergeant; 25th May 1918, appointed Superintending Clerk, with pay of Acting Company Quartermaster Sergeant; 24th June 1918, appointed A/W.O. Class II under Special Army Order dated 24th June 1918; 16th April 1919, surrendered all claims to be demobilized now, and express desire to continue serving, accepted into Armies of Occupation; 20th June 1919, admitted New End Military Hospital, Hampstead, acute nephritis.

30th October 1919, letter from Mrs Mary Ann Sophia Nerney, 36 Delancey Street, Camden Town, NW1. - " I write to know if you could give me any information or advise me what to do. My husband left me some years ago and I have just heard of his death I have been told that a man the name of Samuel Davis has put in his claim for his Effects which I has his lawful wife think I come before him. My husbands name is William Martin Nerney, C.Q.M. Sergt, Royal West Kents. He died 27th June 1919, in Hampstead Military Hospital. Trusting to have a reply from you."

Buried at East Finchley Cemetery & St Marylebone Crematorium, H. 10. 23., United Kingdom.
