30th November 1914, enlisted Kent Cyclists 1/1 Reserve Battalion, Service No.1485; 28th January 1916, posted Kent Cyclists 3/1 Reserve Battalion; 27th May 1916, posted Kent Cyclists 2/1 Reserve Battalion; 5th Janaury 1917, posted Kent Cyclists 1/1 Reserve Battalion; 28th May 1917, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 28th November 1917, Folkestone, promoted Acting Corporal; 4th February 1918 to 2nd March 1918, musketry course Bisley, qualified as 1st Class Instructor; 15th to 20th July 1918, qualified as Instructor anti gas School Canterbury; 3rd August 1918, classified as 1st Class Instructor anti gas course, Crowborough; 27th October 1918, promoted to substantive rank of Corporal & posted 12th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 23rd November 1918, promoted Sergeant and posted 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th January 1919, 16th General Hospital, Le Treport; 4th February 1919, transferred to UK; 5th February 1919, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

26th March 1919, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued

Pension, 6/6 a week for 26 weeks to be reviewed. Disability 20%.
