Sergeant Frederick William BODY, L/9525, 1st Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, France and Flanders, death presumed on or after 22nd July 1916.

Born Devonport, Devon, son of Richard & Emma Body, 16 Kingshead Alley, Bluetown, Sheerness, Kent. Brother John Body also Royal West Kent Regiment.

19th December 1914, St Pauls, Sheerness, Kent, married Dora Sophia Robinson, spinster. Residing 1919 - 1921 at 23 Chapel Street, Bluetown, Sheerness, Kent.

Previously Gunner in Territorial Force from 4th July 1910 to 9th January 1911.

Home 9th January 1911 to 13th August 1914; BEF 14th August 1914 to 22nd September 1914; Home 23rd September 1914 to 16th February 1915; BEF 17th February 1915 to 22nd July 1916.

Enlisted  Sheerness, Kent, age 18, height 5ft 4¾ inches, weight 107l½bs, brown eyes, dark brown hair, scar back of neck.  Resided 16 Kingshead Alley, Bluetown, Sheerness, Kent.  Formerly butcher.

9th January 1911, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 22nd March 1911, awarded 3rd Class Certificate of Education; 31st May 1911, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th February 1912 to 22nd February 1912, Hospital influenza; 22nd March 1912, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 10th April 1912, appointed Lance Corporal; 29th June 1912, awarded 2nd Class Certificate of Education; 2nd September 1912, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 18th April 1913, passed exam to rank of Corporal; 1st December 1913 to 3rd December 1913, Maidstone Hospital, myalgia, back; 19th December 1913, promoted Corporal;  4th February 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th March 1914, injured right thumb (accident on duty); 30th March 1914 to 28th April 1914, King George Hospital, Dublin, whitlow, septic infection, transferred to Infirmary; 28th April 1914 to 8th June 1914, whitlow, removal of terminal phalanx; 22nd October 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 17th February 1915, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th February 1915, appointed Acting Sergeant; 5th May 1915, wounded, gun shot wound to right shoulder;  27th September 1915, promoted Sergeant ; 22nd July 1916, posted missing.

19th March 1917, widow awarded a pension of 11/- a week.

Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 11C, Somme, France.
