Serjeant Nehemiah BARON, S/554, 8th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, killed in action, Flanders, France,  1st September 1916, age 38.

Born St Thomas, Blackburn, Lancashire, enlisted 7th September 1914, Blackburn, Lancashire, age 35, height 5 ft 4 inches, weight 123 lbs,  resided at 62, Coddington St., Blackburn, Lancashire.. Formerly weaver.

Son of W. E. Baron of 62, Coddington St., Blackburn, Lancashire.

Husband of Ann Elizabeth Baron (nee Canavan), of 62, Coddington St., Blackburn, Lancashire. Married St Thomas Church Blackburn, 23rd November 1907.

Promoted Corporal, 29th September 1914; promoted Lance Sergeant, 1st November 1914; deprived of stripe, 11th December 1914 (drunk on parade); appointed Lance Sergeant, 10th May 1915; promoted Sergeant, 1st October 1915.

Children: Nehemiah Baron, born 11th July 1918, Blackburn; Elizabeth Baron, born 26th January 1910; Annie Baron, born 8th January 1913, Blackburn.

Wounded 8th June 1916.

A pension of 24 shillings a week awarded to widow and three children, commencing 26th March 1917.

Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 11C, Somme, France.
