Sergeant Ralph Peter GALLOWAY, L/8503, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died, 12th November 1918, age 28.

Born Lambeth, London, Surrey, son of William Galloway, 129 Princes Road, Lambeth, SE.

Previously served in 3rd Battalion, Special Reserve, Royal West Kent Regiment from 23rd October 1906.

17th December 1906, Stratford, enlisted age 18, height 5ft 5¾ inches, weight 115lbs, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, mole left thigh, (after 6 months service & gymnastics course, 5ft 7 inches, weight 117lbs). Resided 89 Lambert Road, Brixton Hill, SW. Formerly indoor porter.

17th December 1906, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 20th March 1907 posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th March 1908, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 11th June 1908, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 21st June 1908 to 25th July 1908, Dover Hospital, hammer toes; 22nd October 1908, 3rd Class Certificate of Education; 3rd February 1909, posted 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 28th February 1909, appointed paid Lance Corporal; 31st October 1910 promoted Corporal; 31st October 1910 to 8th November 1910, Peshawar Hospital, shingles; 7th August 1911, 2nd Class Certificate of Education; 22nd April 1912 to 25th April 1912, tonsillitis; 20th December 1912, appointed Lance Sergeant; 21st April 1913, extended his service to complete 12 years with the Colours; 7th March 1914, promoted Sergeant; 25th October 1915 to 5th November 1915, Nasiriyah Hospital with VDH mitral; 6th November 1915, transferred to Battalion Hospital, Basrah; 14th November 1915, transferred to India, HS Varela; 9th January 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

23rd November 1915, Medical Board Report - originated while on active service in Mesopotamia, admitted to hospital with both knees swollen, right elbow & shoulder also involved. Complained of pain in chest & shortness of breath.

18th May 1916, discharged  to 25 Lady Street, Annan, as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness. Silver War Badge issued

Pension, 29/- a week for 6 months.

25th October 1916, pension 29/- a week pending medical report; 8th November 1916, total incapacity, pension 29/- a week; 30th May 1917, medical report 4th May 1917, total incapacity, no earnings, 32/6 a week from 4th April 1917; 10th October 1917, medical report 3rd October 1917, prevents 100%, 32/6 a week; 3rd October 1918, medical board, prevents 100%.

Next of Kin (mother in law) - Mrs Elizabeth Shannon, West 6, Gretna Township, Dumfriesshire to hold in trust any medals etc for his child Ralph A Galloway, until he is of an age to appreciate their value.

Buried at  Dornock Cemetery, 174. 3., Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
