Serjeant William James ATKINSON, 201927 (5099), 1st / 4th Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment, died of a lung infection, during a train journey, 12th January 1920, age 25.

1894, Born Rothbury, Northumberland. Son of the late James Atkinson and Margaret Atkinson, of Rothbury, Northumberland. Sisters Eleanor & Lily Milburn.

Also served with Northumberland Fusiliers, Service No. 32/927

Buried in Bangalore (Hosur Road) Cemetery, India.

Commemorated at Madras 1914 -1918 War Memorial, Face 20, Chennai, India and in the Book of Remembrance, All Saints Church, Rothbury, Northumberland.

NOTE: this soldier does not appear in the Regimental History Roll of Honour or in Soldiers Died in the Great War; but he is included on the CWGC web site.
