Born Luton, Kent, son of George & Lizzie Staff, of 176, Upper Luton Road, Chatham, Kent.

29th October 1891, Luton, Kent, baptism of Walter William Staff, son of George & Lizzie Staff.

Enlisted Chatham, Kent, age 23 years & 11 months, height 5ft 8 inches, weight 120lbs.  Resided South Ashford, Kent. Formerly grocers shop assistant.

Home 23rd November 1914 to 11th September 1917; BEF 12th September 1917 to 21st March 1918.

23rd November 1914, enlisted & posted 2/5th Royal West Kent Regiment; 16th June 1915, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 10th August 1915, promoted substantive, Corporal; 16th September 1915, appointed paid Lance Sergeant; 29th April 1916, promoted Sergeant;

29th June 1917, West Ashford Registration District, Walter William Staff, married  Louisa Fanny Kite.

12th September 1917, posted BEF; 12th September 1917, substantive rank on embarkation, Corporal; 12th September 1917, Folkestone, embarked; 12th September 1917, Boulogne, disembarked; 12th September 1917, posted 3/4th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, Etaples, 40 Infantry Base Depot; 16th September 1917, Etaples, 40 Infantry Base Depot, posted 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 17th September 1917, joined Battalion, In the Field; 28th November 1917, 4 Casualty Clearing Station; 29th November 1917, 8 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, PUO; 12th December 1917, Infantry Base Depot "J"; 18th December 1917, Infantry Base Depot "J", to Battalion; 7th January 1918, rejoined Battalion, In the Field; promoted Sergeant, with effect from10th May 1917; 21st March 1918 to 28th March 1918, posted missing.

23rd December 1918, pension of 22/11 a week awarded to widow & one child.

1919 December, West Ashford Registration District, Louisa Fanny Staff married Thomas Finch. Resident in Canada.

Commemorated at Pozieres Memorial, Panel 58 and 59, France.
