Captain Christopher Gordon Henderson-Roe, Royal West Kent Regiment, Special Reserve. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack upon an enemy trench. He continued to lead and direct his men until he was blown down and almost completely buried. He remained in this position for ten hours, eventually extricating himself. On his way back to our lines he bandaged some of our wounded, collected and placed them into shell holes. He then crawled back to the post held by his battalion, and remained there throughout the action, after which he led the stretcher bearers to the wounded whom he had collected, and personally carried a badly wounded corporal back to our lines. His gallantry throughout the operation was most marked.
