Drummer Samuel George COOMBES, G/7043, 1st   Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment,  (formerly 4388, 9th Lancers), died of wounds, Flanders France, 15th October 1917, age 27. 

Born Cinderford, Gloucestershire, enlisted Newport, Monmouthshire.

Son of S. and E. Coombes; husband of Gladys Coombes, of 17, Queen St., Abertillery.

Commemorated at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, III. N. 4A.France.
