Born Cardiff, Wales, enlisted Croydon, Surrey, resided Norbury, Surrey. Son of Thomas Arneway Oates and Clara Alice Oates, of London; husband of Clara Pascall (formerly Oates), of Beverley Bungalow, Upper Cumberland Walk, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Panel 45 and 47, Belgium.
