The following is a continuation of Sir Douglas Haig's Despatch of 7th November, submitting names deserving special mention, published in a Supplement to the London Gazette of Friday, 28th December, 1917: SOUTH AFRICA. - STAFF. Corfe, Major (temporary Lieutenant - Colonel) A. C., D.S.O. Commanding Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment. London Gazette 22nd March 1918. With reference to the awards conferred as announced in the London Gazette dated 19th November 1917, the following are the statements of services for which the decorations were conferred: AWARDED A SECOND BAR TO THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER Major (temp. Lieutenant Colonel) Arthur Cecil Corfe, D.S.O., Sout African DefenceForce and Royal West Kent Regiment. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of his battalion during an attack. The assaulting troops in front were checked by heavy rifle fire from, a strong point. He at once went forward, and by his inspiring presence and personal leadership reduced the strong point and killed the occupants. He was severely wounded, but continued to advance until exhausted from loss of blood. His splendid example was of the highest value at a critical moment
