His Majesty The KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the under mentioned Warrant Officers, Non-commissioned Officers, and Men, for gallantry and distinguished service in the Field:— 

Company Serjeant Major J  COOPER, G/6884, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in reorganising troops whose officers had become causalities and assisting in consolidating the captured position. His conduct was admirable in the face of heavy fire, during which he was wounded.

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an enemy advance. When his company officers had all become causalities he took charge of the company and by  his organisation and coolness under heavy shell fire and machine gun fire he held it together until relieved of his command by an officer. He set a fine example to all.
