Son of Charles Powling, 44 Woodside Road, Tonbridge, Kent.
Home, 7th September 1914 to 25th July 1915; BEF, 26th July 1915 to 6th November 1916; Home, 7th November 1916 to 17th June 1917.
7th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th September 1914, posted 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 15th September 1916, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal; 7th November 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th May 1917, 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol; 17th June 1917, posted Army Reserve, Class "P".
17th June 1917, discharged as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.
Pension, 13/9 a week for 26 weeks, conditional. Disability, gun shot wound, left leg & back.
NOTE: Sidney Powling, (younger brother), also served. Enlisted 4th September 1914, Royal West Kent Regiment, 1537, BEF, 26th July 1915, transferred to Labour Company, 392427 Private, 11th December 1917, discharged, disability gun shot wound, upper shoulder & left knee.
