Enlisted Athlone, Ireland, age 19 years, height 5ft 5½ inches, weight 113lbs, teeth are defective, but he agrees to have dental treatment, bust of lady, "Mary" underneath, on right forearm. Resided 57 Oconneth Street, Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland.

17th May 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 12th July 1915, 10 extractions, 4 fillings, 9 teeth in denture; 17th July 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 11th August 1915, forfeits 9 days pay; 26th October 1915 to 6th November 1915, Drill Hall, Chatham, bronchitis; 6th November 1915 to 23rd December 1915, Bidborough Court, Tunbridge Wells, bronchitis; 18th February 1916, awarded 14 days Field Punishment No.2. by Commanding Officer for absence; 24th February 1916, posted BEF & 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 20th December 1916, posted Lance Corporal; 19th May 1917, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th May 1917 to 11th September 1917, Northumberland War Hospital, Newcastle on Tyne, gun shot wound, head, large cerebral hernia, (size of duck egg) in parietal region with right haemophilia and loss of speech. Hernia disappeared with one month, speech improved, face much improved, right hand useless, transferred to London General Hospital, Chelsea; 11th September 1917 to 8th January 1918, London General Hospital, Chelsea, shell wound penetrating & haemophilia, discharged.
11th October 1917, , discharged age 21, as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.
Not to be compulsory posted for Service under the Military Review of Exceptions Act of 1917.
1919 September, Clonmel, Ireland married Mary Coleman / Mary Josephine Pope
Buried at Clonmel (St Patricks) Cemetery, 2. F. 66., Republic of Ireland.
