Private Alfred George PUTTICK, 9107, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Born Bexley Heath, Kent, enlisted 16th April 1914, Woolwich, age 17, height 5ft 4½ inches, weight 113lbs, resided 9 Meeting House Lane, South Woolwich / 92 York Avenue, Gillingham, Kent. Formerly brewers labourer.

Son of Frank Puttick, 87 High Street, Woolwich. Brothers - William Puttick; James Puttick, HMS Pathfinder.

Husband of Ethel Eleanor Puttick, (nee Skinner), married 27th June 1917, Chatham, Kent.

16th April 1914, enlisted & posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 6th August 1914, mobilized; 2nd September 1914 to 11th September 1914, In Guard Detention Tent; 12th September 1914, tried by DCM, sentenced to 30 days Field Punishment No.2., to 11th October 1914, for sleeping on his post; 8th November 1914, posted 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 18th April 1915, shell wound, leg & hand; 20th July 1915, posted to 3rd Battalion, Garrison Company, Royal West Kent Regiment; 14th November 1915 to 19th November 1915, absent; 20th January 1916, awarded 10 days Field Punishment No.2. by Commanding Officer, for absent from Defaulters; 9th February 1916, posted 6th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 17th February 1916, Infantry Base Depot, Etaples; 20th May 1919, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

10th June 1919, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 11/- a week until further notice. Disability prevents 40%, gun shot wound, amputated left hand.

10th September 1920, copy of letter from GPO London to The Secretary, The National Association for the Employment Ex Soldiers, forwarded to Infantry Record Office, Hounslow - I am directed by the Postmaster General to state for the information of the National Association for the Employment Ex Soldiers, that on the 8th July last Alfred George Puttick at one time a temporary postman at Woolwich, an Ex Soldier, was sentenced at the Woolwich Police Court to 3 months hard labour for theft from the post. Before his employment in the Post Office Puttick served in the Royal West Kent Regiment (Regimental S/9107). His general conduct and character while in the Army were described as "very good, sober, honest and trustworthy" and he was recommended for the situation in the Post Office in December last through the Ministry of Labour , Labour Exchange, New Road, Woolwich.
