Private George PICKFORD, 20122, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.

Born Quarnford, Staffordshire, enlisted 22nd November 1915, age 28, height 5ft 5¾ inches, weight 126lbs, resided White Lion Inn, Macclesfield, Staffordshire. Formerly farmer.

Husband of Annie Pickford, (nee Jenkins), married 27th September 1915, Leek, Staffordshire

Child - Mary Elizabeth Pickford, born 28th February 1916, Leek, Staffordshire.

22nd November 1915, enlisted into General Service Cavalry 33645; 26th October 1917, Ypres, wounded, gun shot wound, right forearm, shrapnel wound, right thigh; 8th November 1917, gun shot wound forearm, wounds  healed, weakness in forearm and hand gradually improving. Tendon transplantation to thumb of plexus of wrist. Removed foreign bodies & excision of wounds. Disablement, 70%.

1st July 1918, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.

17th January 1919, pains in right forearm & wrist. Weakness of grip of right hand. Wasting muscles of right forearm. movement of thumb & fingers of right hand good. Very slight limitation of flexion of right wrist. 50% 6 months, 30% 6 months.

19th January 1920, Potteries, weakness in right arm & leg. Is right handed grip ¼. Wasting of right forearm, 12/- a week for 52 weeks. For child 3/- a week.

17th January 1921, Potteries, scars as before. Can walk 12 miles? gait good, grip ¼, muscles hand & fingers wasted, elbow wrist & fingers free. Thigh no disablement. 30%.

25th January 1922, Potteries, numbness right hand, grip ½, right forearm ½ inch wasting. Impaired grip. 20%.

25th January 1923, Special Medical Board, weakness of grip of right hand, states he had swelling of right thigh in region of wound, was painful at first, now going down. Scars right thigh as previously described, well healed, small lump size of pigeons egg, no wasting, good muscle tone. Right forearm as previously described.
