Born Blackfriars, Surrey, Enlisted 6th October 1915, Gravesend, Kent, age 19, height 5ft 2 inches, weight 128lbs, resided 41 Station Street, Northfleet, Kent / 22 College Street, Northfleet, Kent / 3 Bramble Tree Cottages, Borstal, nr Rochester, Kent. Formerly labourer, Greenhithe Wallpaper Manufacturers.

Son of George Paterson, 12 College Street, Northfleet, Kent.

Home, 6th October 1915 to 2nd May 1916; BEF, 3rd May 1916 to 12th October 1916; Home, 13th October 1916 to 30th March 1917.

6th October 1915, & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd May 1916, posted BEF & 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 3rd May 1916, embarked Southampton; 4th May 1916, disembarked Harves; 9th October 1916, wounded; 11th October 1916, No.10, General Hospital, Rouen, transferred to England, Hospital ship Aberdonian, wounded, shell shock; 13th October 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

1st February 1917, 4th London General Hospital, Medical Report on an Invalid - date & place of disability, October 1916, Somme Front. Sent to France May 1916. Blown up and rendered unconscious by shell explosion. Shortly afterwards became paraplegic. Sent via Rouen Hospital  to 4th London General Hospital, 13th October 1916. Gradually improved up to his present state. Is suffering from shell shock. Frequent headaches & vertigo, some loss of control of leg movements, general instability.

30th March 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds. Silver War Badge issued.

Award Final Gratuity of £35 in lieu of total disability pension for 3 months & partial disability for 6 months.

Died 31st January 1949, 112, Princes Street, Rochester, Kent, married, age 52, labourer HM Dockyard, informant E Paterson widow of deceased, present at death, cause of death disseminated sclerosis.
