Born Bermondsey, Surrey, enlisted 5th September 1914, New Cross, Kent, age 30, height 5ft 3¾ inches, weight 130lbs, resided 6 Cambridge Place, Cambridge Road, Kilburn, NW / 49 Beckway Street, East Street, Walworth. Formerly carman.

Son of Alfred Payne. Brother, William Payne.

Home, 5th September 1914 to 28th September 1915; Indian Expeditionary Force "D", 29th September 1915 to 8th February 1916; Home, 9th February 1916 to 8th August 1916.

5th September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th September 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th October 1914, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 2nd April 1915, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 298th September 1915, posted Indian Expeditionary Force "D", & 2nd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 9th February 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 30th July 1916, 5th London (City of London) General Hospital.

8th August 1916, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to sickness Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 5/- a week for 6 months, conditional.
