Born Wadhurst, Tunbridge Wells, Sussex, enlisted 3rd September 1914, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, age 20, height 5ft 4½ inches, slight tendency to left flat foot, resided 2 Mount Pleasant Villa, Wadhurst, Sussex. Formerly labourer.

Son of Thomas Frederick Powell, 2 Mount Pleasant Villa, Wadhurst, Sussex.

Home, 3rd September 1914 to 17th September 1915; BEF, 18th September 1915 to 17th July 1916; Home, 18th July 1916 to 22nd May 1917.

3rd September 1914, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 5th September 1914, posted 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 24th October 1914, posted 9th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 18th September 1915, posted BEF & 7th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; 16th July 1916, wounded, gun shot wound, right leg, fractured; 18th July 1916, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 19th July 1916 to 22nd May 1917, Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot, gun shot wound, right leg, compound fracture of femur, operation, stiffness of knee joint, shortening of right leg.

22nd May 1917, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 13/9 a week for 26 weeks, conditional.

31st January 1920 to 23rd February 1920, Kitchener Hospital, Brighton, old gun shot wound, right thigh, fractured femur, Xray shows sequestered, transferred for further treatment.
