Enlisted 8th January 1915, Accrington, Lancashire, age 37, height 5ft 5 inches, resided 21 Paddock Street, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. Formerly weaver.

Husband of Mary Ann Riley, (nee Walmsley), married 20th May 1899, St Peters Church, Accrington, Lancashire.

Children - John Henry Riley, born 9th January 1905, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire; James Riley, born 20th February 1908, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire; Sarah Riley, born  23rd March 1913, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire.

8th January 1915, enlisted & posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment; 16th January 1915, posted 8th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment; wounded; 12th June 1915, Shoreham by Sea, Sussex, gambling in a hut about 9.00am, 14 days confined to Barracks; 19th June 1915, Shoreham by Sea, Sussex, absent from Defaulters Roll call from 6.00pm to 9.15pm, 2 days confined to Barracks; 26th October 1915, posted Depot, Royal West Kent Regiment.

1st September 1916, discharged  as "no longer physically fit for War Service" due to wounds Silver War Badge issued.

Pension, 18/9 a week for 6 months conditional.
